Confirmation of Ketanji Brown Jackson to Associate Justice of the Supreme Court
April 7, 2022
Judge Jackson has a proven dedication to the fight for labor rights, voting rights, economic justice, and other pressing civil and human rights issues that affect all of our lives. Her opinions have demonstrated an understanding of worker rights and properly interpreting legal precedent. For example, in AFGE v. Federal Labor Relations Authority (FLRA), when the FLRA wrongly instituted a policy that would limit federal unions’ ability to negotiate matters that did not come up in formal bargaining, Judge Jackson Brown correctly called the new policy “arbitrary and capricious.”
In AFL-CIO v. Trump, she likewise correctly upheld National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) rules to expedite union elections so that companies can’t delay elections and give themselves more time to intimidate workers who want to organize - she wrote the new rule “must be held unlawful and set aside.” These rulings are part of a long record in which Judge Jackson has demonstrated a strong understanding of the law, expertise on numerous policy issues, and the ability to correctly interpret the law.
This is Good for working people.
